A Journey Rooted in Resilience, Clarity, and Human Kindness

By Juan Jose (JJ) Ayala, Executive Director, Team Percepto

In January 2024, my world shifted.

After years of dedication, my name appeared on TelevisaUnivision’s list of layoffs. I wasn't the only one. Many talented colleagues also found themselves facing uncertainty. It was a moment that forced me to pause, to reflect. I felt alone at first. But deep down, I never lost hope that a path would eventually reveal itself.

And then something incredible happened: many paths opened.

In those early months, I explored different directions. I had always felt entrepreneurial. I love building, creating, and imagining new possibilities. I seriously considered launching four different businesses. I researched them deeply, developed plans, looked into permits, suppliers, regulations. I was committed. But after months of exploring, I asked myself: what if I focus on just one path?

That's when I had a breakthrough. Since 2003, I had been immersed in radio content research, uncovering insights, understanding audiences, and helping guide decisions. Yet market research had never been one of those four business ideas. Still, it made sense. I could evolve beyond just radio or media. I could use my experience to serve nonprofits, social impact organizations, brands, employee-centered teams, anyone who needed better questions, better data, and clearer insight.

I realized something even deeper. What I truly love is helping people make sense of the world. And with that, Team Percepto was born.

On May 6, 2024, we became officially registered. But the real work had already begun. Hours and hours spent gathering data, analyzing trends, testing tools, building presentations, and crafting insights that mean something. This wasn’t just a professional pivot. It was a transformation.

The Heart of the Journey: Human Kindness

If there’s one theme that defined this year, it’s kindness.

Throughout this journey, I’ve encountered people who, without hesitation, opened their hearts, shared wisdom, and simply offered their time. These weren’t transactional moments. These were human moments, full of compassion, warmth, and sincerity. No politics. No agenda. Just people being people.

Some of these individuals barely knew me, yet they listened. They answered messages, my emails, my LinkedIn messages, with genuine care. They gave me honest advice. They offered introductions. They said, “Keep going. You’ve got this.” These were acts of kindness that came from a place of authenticity. They didn’t expect anything in return. That generosity gave me fuel on the hardest days.

I call them angels. And I hope I can be the same for others.

But without question, my biggest supporters have been my wife and my two daughters. They don’t just bring joy into my life. They have been there for me every step of the way, mis amores, mis ángeles, the biggest kind of ángeles out there. Their love, patience, and belief in me made this journey possible. Gracias a mis amores.

I also want to thank my parents. Their example, strength, and constant encouragement have shaped who I am. They taught me the value of hard work, honesty, and humility. Without their foundation, none of this would be possible.

That’s how I live. With openness. With transparency. With heart. I believe in being honest and human in every interaction, and I will continue to be that way for as long as I’m here, in this life, in this body, in this moment.

Still Just the Beginning

Today, Team Percepto turns one year old. And this is only the beginning.

The mission is clear. Keep asking questions. Keep making sense of the world. Keep helping others do the same. With curiosity. With courage. With transparency. With heart. And always, with kindness.

Here’s a picture of the exact space where Team Percepto was created. My little corner of resilience, hope, and purpose.
